Hiking in Wasdale and Ennerdale Valleys in the Lake District Feb 2010

This is a low level (we dont have crampons or ice axes) hike me and Jack did in the Lake District (Feb 2010). We started in Ennerdale Valley, camping by the lake on the first night. The next day we walked up the valley and over Black Sail Pass into Wasdale Valley. We found a lovely camp spot low down near Riscon Falls we where played in the snow as the sun set. We started late (to warm and cosy in our sleeping bags!) and walked up the Nether beck River and found another superb camp spot perched on the top of the river gorge. After another late start we made our way up the south ridge of Haycock, and then traversed around the SW side when we hit the snow line (this way we could play in the snow but also skirt round it if needed). Our last camp sport rates as one the best mornings I had wild camping due to watching the sunrise over the snow caped mountains illuminating Ennerdale valley with golden rays beneath a blue sky, all from the comfort of my sleeping bag in my tent!

2010 Fundy National Park Hammock Camping Geocaching Weekend

2 day weekend camping at fundy national park, before & during the 3rd geocaching event inside the park. Had a few hammocks setup at the group site #1-2 while we had a private site #293 in chignecto. Beautiful may long weekend. 166 people showed up for our event. Five new geocaches were published and the eager geocachers hit the trails. The reward this year was a special 60th anniversary of Fundy National Park, a non-trackable geocoin. The theme for the geocaches this year was "water", each cache brought geocachers to selected areas of the park which hilighted this theme. One example was the geocache "Fishy Facebook" where the nearby lake was the site of a new fishway which will allow the fish to travel between the lake & river system. Or "What's Up Doc?" where geocachers were guided down to the site of the many waterfalls that are located within the park. 105 geocachers started their day at 10am, but during the next few hours, another 61 had logged in. Many decided to take advantage of the weekend to book camping site and do the challenge over two days. Over twenty participants were able to log all five geocaches during the event duration. However, it was hard work as many returned with red faces and that look of exhaustion which turned into joy once they redeemed their passport for the geocoin. The conclusion of the event included prizes from Fundy Guild, The North Face (via The Trail Shop) and The Tides Restaurant. Parking (Parking Area) N 45° 35.488 W 064° 57.324 Upper ...

Ullswater Holiday (Lake District-June 2010)

Lucy and I decided to head to the Lake District for a few days in June for a little break. We ended up camping at Park Foot campsite at the north end of Ullswater lake in North West England. We got lost in the stunning scenery and beautiful sunshine as we walked around much of the lake. I don't think I've ever been so relaxed on any holiday ever. One i'll remember fondly for a good long time. I would highly recommend a visit to this place, every memory is like a picture postcard. Nick :)
